The underestimated power of primaries

The primary elections on June 7 should be the most important of the year for everyone. But they are not, unless you live in Brigantine, Northfield or Mays Landing in Atlantic County.

What a pity. In November, many people will wish they could vote for a third party since there is so little difference between Democrats and Republicans in New Jersey.

Make Zoning and Building Laws Fair, Simple, and Applied Equally to All

Last week, my photo was on the front page of our daily newspaper. The caption misquoted me as saying we needed more zoning regulations–something I never said.

The story was about a bus tour for Somers Point residents to advise our city’s “expert” on urban planning what new zoning laws we thought would make our town better.

When the photo was taken, we were stopped on Route 9. The empty Chi-Chi’s/Schooner’s/ Oriental Buffet building was on one side-the closed Burger King was on the other. I was explaining that these buildings, like many on Route 9, were empty far too long, because our zoning laws are out of touch with reality.

purpose of a public college is to give our kids a no-frills, but high
quality college education for less than $12,000 a year? If parents want
to crush themselves and their kids with debt and pay more than $25,000 per
year for college, they are free to do so. But should a taxpayer funded
college like Stockton financially ruin families who don’t send their kids to
those private colleges? …

NJ has no legal obligation to pay most of its huge debt

So why are we told that New Jersey is more than $165 billion in debt?

Roughly $27 billion more was borrowed by “independent” authorities. Our
Supreme Court ruled that voter approval was not needed because New Jersey taxpayers cannot be forced to pay this debt. These bonds actually have clear language stating they are not backed by the full faith and credit of the state.
