Wind Opinion Versus Facts

Strong support for Atlantic Shores offshore wind project

Here is another column substituting opinion for fact.  The two hundred wind turbines will reduce atmospheric temperature by how many degrees, what will be the reduction in the number of storms and their intensity and what will be the decrease in sea level rise?  These number are never expressed. Instead, the belief that wind turbines will reduce climate change is accepted as fact.

What is fact is wind turbines increase electricity costs significantly because an unreliable wind system and a reliable gas coal system must be maintained. The unreliable wind also increases cost because the reliable fossil fuel system must operate inefficiently due to the wind.

The three primary wind countries, Denmark, Germany and South Australia all have significant cost increases since unreliable wind was imposed.  Their electrical rates are two to three times New Jersey. Since wind is supposed to be so cheap, this cost increase has never been explained.

We are a group of about 200 ordinary citizens who mostly live near Atlantic City, New Jersey.  We volunteer our time and money to maintain this website. We do our best to post accurate information. However, we admit we make mistakes from time to time.  If you see any mistakes or inaccurate, misleading, outdated, or incomplete information in this or any of our posts, please let us know. We will do our best to correct the problem as soon as possible.  Thanks.

  1. “Reliance on wind and solar is causing massive problems in California, Europe and England.”
We just saw the disaster in Texas that resulted in massive power outages. Coal- and gas-fired power plants were demolished in favor of wind turbine generators. An ice storm stopped the turbines, breaking the blades of many. Remaining coal- and gas-fired plants could not produce enough power to make up for the loss of wind-powered generators.
The nature of AC power generation is that if a generator is overloaded so that it slows, it goes out of phase,* resulting in automatically being taken offline. This cascades, potentially overloading other generators, so they are disconnected from the circuit that is overloading a generator or power plant. If the other generators do not disconnect quickly enough to prevent overloading and slowing out of phase, they shut off. Or they are already on the edge of overload, which causes them to disconnect.
    * North American electricity is 60 Hz (cycles per second) AC (alternating current).
