Franklin remarked that ordinary Americans were often better informed on public issues than the educated elites who ran governments in Europe. He said this was because Americans freely expressed their opinions and learned from each other. This was because “By the collision of different sentiments, sparks of truth are struck out, and political light is obtained”.
Benjamin Franklin there was nothing wrong with honestly expressing views which are later found to be incorrect. “Having lived long, I have experienced many instances of being obliged by better information or fuller consideration to change opinions, even on important subjects, which I once thought right, but found to be otherwise.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
