During one battle in their war for independence, the Swiss were hemmed in by a disciplined line of Austrian soldiers armed with long pikes.?? ?Winkelried charged forward alone and a dozen enemy soldiers pierced his body with their pikes.??? Winkelried was killed, but he opened a gap in the Austrian lines.?? The rest of the Swiss army charged through and won the battle.??? Last week, conservative Republicans Ted Cruz and Mike Lee fought alone against Obamacare in the U.S. Senate.??? They were both viciously attacked and ridiculed.?? But they increased public awareness and support for Republicans and created an opening for them.?? Winkelried is still praised as a hero in Switzerland 500 years later.??? But instead of thanking Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, Republican ?leaders? are attacking and ridiculing them as much as the Democrats did. ?Why? ?For details on the Arnold von Winkelried story, see?See?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnold_von_Winkelried. ??Seth Grossman
