Podcast: Play in new window
Seth Grossman JUNE 14, 2025. Guest on WPG Radio. 95.5FM and 1450AM Near Atlantic City, NJ Every Saturday Morning at 9:15AM:
Today is “No Kings Day”. Democrats throughout America and, here in South Jersey, they’re having protests, against Donald Trump.
How can Democrats look at these violent riots in all these cities and call them “peaceful protests”? Well, the short answer is when they watch their media, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NPR, they don’t see any violence! Those networks only show the peaceful demonstrations, and so most Democrats are totally ignorant of the violence and destruction that is going on. They have no idea why Trump as President has to act to stop it.
Trump poll numbers went down because nobody on our side explained why we have immigration laws and why we need deportations to enforce them.
But something else is going on. I force myself to watch CNN news from time to time to see what the other half the country thinks is news. And the folks at CNN were jumping up and down with glee. They were reporting that Trump’s poll numbers are dropping among young voters and independents because of his immigration enforcement. However, those numbers are not dropping because we are enforcing immigration laws. They’ are dropping because our side is not explaining why we have immigration laws and why they need to be enforced.
The half of the country that doesn’t watch Fox News or get any conservative news has no idea why Trump needs to arrest and deport all foreigners who are in this country illegally. For years, Trump promised to round up and deport dangerous criminals who are in this country illegally. And that was very popular. But now we see ICE arresting day laborers at Home Depot or Wawa parking lots trying to get to work. So of course this is a big disconnect for a lot of people. And who does not feel sorry for their kids. People are upset that we are arresting and deporting people who are not causing trouble.
We must explain these three reasons for limits on immigration over and over again!
1. There are eight billion people in the world, and two billion of them are poor and miserable. We cannot let them all come to America.
That is because they are in failed Islamic or socialist countries with governments and cultures that keep people poor and miserable. Of course, they all want to come here for better lives, but we can’t let them. If we did, they would still be poor and miserable, and they would make us and our children and grandchildren just as poor and miserable. That is why we had quotas or limits on the number of people who could come to America since 1920!

Even with those limits, America has the most generous immigration laws in the world. Until Lyndon Johnson and Ted Kennedy in 1965, we allowed 100,000 immigrants to come to America each year. Since then, we allow 400,000 people each year. That is actually way too much. However, our country absolutely cannot survive if we allow millions of people to come to America over and above that 400,000 per year! So, we can’t say “I have no problem with immigrants, as long as they come here legally”. No! They can’t come here legally because we cannot allow more than 400,000 foreigners into this country each year and still have a country. But yet I rarely hear people talking about that.

JOHN DeMASI: Boy, that that that’s an interest an interesting point. I never I never heard that before, but I’m glad you brought it up.
SETH GROSSMAN: It’s also an obvious point. If you say anybody in the world can come to America ifthey, don’t commit crimes and work through the system, I say “No!” How can 2 billion of the poorest people in the world come to our country and for us still to have a country? And if you’re not prepared to have 2 billion poor foreigners come to this country at once, than anything more than the legal limit of 400,000 per year is slowly destroying our country. I wish Trump and other top leaders would say that! However, if they won’t say it, then we have to say it.
JOHN DeMASI: And you just did.
2. We need to deport people who came to this country illegally, even if there is hardship. Otherwise there would be no deterrent to breaking the law.
Once you accept the idea that we have to have limits on who can come here, you understand that we need mass deportations of people who previously broke the law to be here. Suppose somebody came here illegally five years ago and they didn’t get caught until now. Now, he or she is married, has kids and a good job. They haven’t had any trouble with the law. What do you do? If you let them stay, what message are you sending to two billion poor people in other countries all over the world? You are inviting them to break the law and come here. You are telling them you will be rewarded if you play the lottery. If you are on good behavior and lay low for a few years, you will never be deported when you are finally caught. If you do that, there will be no deterrent whatsoever to breaking the law. And of course, all of those cartels that make money smuggling illegals will all get paid. You cannot have limits on immigration, and you can’t have laws if you allow that. We have to say what the Romans said, “Dura lex sed lex”. The law is hard, but it is the law.
3. Poor countries will never get better if they send their best and brightest people to America!
Everyone says we have to welcome these poor people from other countries so they can get a bigger life here. Why can’t they get a better life in their own country? One big reason is we make it easy for the best and brightest people in poor countries to come here rather than make life better in their own countries. The real solution would be to teach them how America got rich. We in America got rich because we respect the law, we protect individual rights and private property, we have Judeo-Christian values like “Love your neighbor as yourself”. That’s what the motto of New Jersey is all about. Liberty and Prosperity. If you have a system and culture of liberty, you get prosperity. The original name of the Statue of Liberty was “Liberty Lighting up the World”. It’s original message was that everyone in the world could live the American Dream if they embraced our ideas, our values and our Constitution. But if we tell everyone in the world to give up on their own countries and come to America, those countries will be poor and miserable forever. And they will end up overwhelming and sinking our country!
JOHN DeMASI: You know, the other thing, Seth, I don’t know if you have done any research on this, but if you try to become a citizen, if if you’re a person who came to this country and you want to become a citizen, the paperwork and the process I mean, my ex-fiancée went through this with her mother. Every week, there was another form, there was another fee, there was another this, another that. I mean, the hoops that they have to jump through to become a citizen is unbelievable. So it it seems to me that it’s just easier to just kind of slide under the radar if you can.
SETH GROSSMAN: That exactly. And it’s heartbreaking, but that’s a whole different problem. That new immigration law of 1965 was deliberately designed by Ted Kennedy to fundamentally change America. Besides increasing the legal number of immigrants from 100,000 to 400,000 per year, it was also designed to fundamentally change the ethnic and racial balance of America. So if you come from favored third-world countries like Pakistan, China, Haiti or Latin America, you have an easy time getting it. But if you come from a European country, you know, you’ll have a very difficult time because there’s very, very tiny quotas for those folks. Again, that 1965 was designed to fundamentally change America. And it succeeded spectacularly. But that that’s another issue. Once we enforce our laws, the next step is to really completely overhaul that disaster that Ted Kennedy shoved down America’s throat in 1965, but that’s a whole different issue.
4. Democrats just discovered the Constitution. But Tenth Amendment Applies To Sports Betting and Marijuana — Not Enforcment of Federal Laws!

Governor Newsome of California is claims that President Trump has no right to take command of his National Guard to restore order. I’m glad Democrats finally discovered that America has a Constitution and that we have a Tenth Amendment. However, they are completely misrepresenting what it means. I would like to give a short Point of Law to explain it.
Article I, Section 8 of our Constitution defines and limits the powers of the Federal Government. It is there to handle national problems. The Federal government can create an army and a navy and deliver the mail. It can regulate people and goods that travel from one state to another. It can coin money and make copyright and patent laws to protect songwriters and inventors. The Federal government is there to do things that state and local governments cannot do.
The Constitution also has the 9th and 10th Amendments. They basically say that whatever power is not specifically given to the federal government in the Constitution can only be done by the states or the people themselves. You are probably familiar with three court cases dealing with this. Sports betting. Years ago, Congress passed a federal law that said it was illegal to bet on sports, even if states wanted to permit it. That went up to the Supreme Court and the federal law was held unconstitutional. Nothing in Article I Section 8 or elsewhere in the Constitution gave the federal government power to regulate gambling within a state.
Same thing with marijuana. Nothing in the constitution gives the federal government the power to control the use of marijuana within a state. And that’s why when they they wanted to make liquor illegal back in the nineteen twenties, they needed a constitutional amendment to give the federal government the power to outlaw liquor. But the federal government passed a bunch of laws making sale and possession of marijuana a crime without a Constitutional amendment. And basically, the courts began to rule that the feds could not do that because of the Tenth Amendment. That’s what the Ninth and Tenth Amendments are about.
So Governor Newsom in California and Governor Murphy in New Jersey are saying, “We don’t want to enforce federal immigration laws. And they say “We are exercising our rights under the Tenth Amendment. And that is completely false! Article One, Section 8 specifically gives the federal government the power to make “uniform laws of naturalization” . So the federal government specifically has that power, and the federal government specifically has the right to enforce it.
Also, I really get annoyed when we even use the term sanctuary city or sanctuary state. There are different words we use to describe state and local officials who refuse to follow federal laws and refuse to follow, laws permitted by the constitution. Those words are “Confederates” or “Insurrectionists”. The last time we had state and local officials who did that, we had a Civil War!
So basically, the federal government has the specific right to, enforce uniform law laws of naturalization. The federal government also has specific duties under the 14th Amendment to protect the rights and property and lives of citizens. That’s what happened in the South until the 1960’s. You had the the KKK in the South beating and killing black Americans and destroying their property while state and local law enforcement did nothing to stop them. The federal government had every right to move in and protect the rights of all Americans there.
JOHN DEMASI: I think it’s I think it’s important to know that. Yeah. I I I thought it was good because I felt like, you know, the role of the federal government is to protect its citizens. And Right. Certainly, you know, you’re talking about these riots. It seems to me that the federal government would try to stop it to protect the citizens.
SETH GROSSMAN: And it’s not just your feelings. We had a Civil War over that issue and the South lost. Then we adopted the Civil War Amendments to our Constitution, the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. They all give the federal government the power to protect the rights of citizens if the states refuse to do it. And that’s exactly what, Trump did.
So let’s not call California a “sanctuary”. Let’s call it what it is, a Confederate state. And we have to deal with these Confederate states the same way Abraham Lincoln dealt with the last Confederate states. And by the way, the Confederate states were all Democrats, if you check the details.
Finally, we just have time to go over a few of the headlines from las week. “Atlantic Shores shelves offshore wind project, Current Political Climate Makes Plans No Longer Viable”. That was in last Tuesday’s Press of Atlantic City. And what’s completely missing from that story is, the name of congressman Republican congressman Jeff Van Drew. Because if anyone has followed that, even though Brigantine mayor Vince Sarah did a lot, even though Eustace Mehta, you know, of that, ICONA hotels did a lot. Jeff Van Drew is our South Jersey representative in Congress. I ran against him in 2018. He beat me when he was a Democrat. Then he switched parties in 2020 and became an outspoken Trump Republican.
Anyway, he did enormous work behind the scenes to contact government officials, bureaucrats and other political leaders around the country. He had a lot more patience and persistence than I ever had. I would say he did 90% of the work and lobbying that shut down the Atlantic Shores ocean wind turbine project. I really think all of us owe it to to give him the recognition he deserves for that. And he does deserve it.
JOHN DEMASI: You’re right. You’re right.
SETH GROSSMAN: Okay. And then I guess one more, point. This is almost a humorous, headline. It said cuts to state funding could decimate Volunteers of America programs throughout New Jersey. The head of that organization was complaining about a $7,340,000 cut funding from the state. And, of course, you have to ask, “Wait a minute. If they’re volunteers, why are they worried about cutbacks in funding from the government? This reminds me of the Margate elephant. All these programs that we think are done by volunteers and funded by private donations are run by de-factor government employees and paid for with our taxes.
And we usually don’t find out about how much the government is paying these people with our taxes until years later, usually by chance, after everyone has forgotten about the program.
And so Liberty & Prosperity struggles to get people to pay $30 for breakfast so we could give scholarship chips to students who support the Constitution. Meanwhile, there are countless leftist organizations that do all this stuff that most people are against–And they don’t have to do any fundraising. They just fill out a simple form and they end up getting buckets of money from the government.
Anyway, the scholarship awards are about be given. I don’t want to miss it. Libertyandprosperity.com, Meeting for breakfast every Saturday morning, 09:30 at Groveland Avenue in New Road in Somers Point, Sal’s Coal Fired Pizza. Thank you very much.
