Swedish Authorities Release All Five Suspects in Salwan Momika’s Assassination

The Swedish Prosecution Authority has announced the release of the five men who were arrested in connection with the assassination of Salwan Momika, citing weakened suspicions against them.

Senior prosecutor Rasmus Öman, who is leading the preliminary investigation, stated:

“The suspicions of a crime have weakened, and I no longer see any reason to keep the people in custody.”

Key Details on the Investigation:
  • All five suspects have been released despite initially being arrested near the crime scene.
  • Swedish media reported that suspicions against them were weak from the start, with police questioning whether they fit the profile of violent criminals.
  • Only one of the suspects had a prior criminal record—raising new uncertainties about whether authorities have identified the real perpetrator.
  • Momika was shot dead while live-streaming on TikTok from his balcony, and initial reports suggested the shooter may have entered via the roof—but no official confirmation has been given.
  • Authorities now face pressure to identify new suspects, as public confidence in the investigation continues to erode.
  • Despite the releases, prosecutors have not ruled out future charges against the five men, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Key Questions and Troubling Uncertainties:
  • The five men were reportedly near the crime scene, but prosecutors now claim there is no clear reason why they were arrested in the first place.
  • Four of the five suspects had no prior criminal record, raising doubts about their involvement. Even police officers handling the case have reportedly expressed skepticism.
  • The real killer remains unknown. Who pulled the trigger if these five men were not the perpetrators?

Update, January 31

Momika Was Assassinated at a Secret Police Residence—Without Protection

Swedish authorities had placed Salwan Momika at a confidential address in Södertälje before his scheduled court ruling for “incitement against an ethnic group.” Despite his high-risk status and being on terrorist hit lists, he had no personal protection when he was shot on his balcony. His phone continued streaming after the attack until police arrived.

Shooter May Have Entered the Apartment Through the Roof

Investigators are exploring a new theory that the gunman gained access to the apartment via the rooftop before ambushing Momika on his balcony. Police conducted extensive searches inside and outside the apartment building to confirm this possibility.

Five Suspects Arrested

Authorities arrested five men shortly after the shooting, all suspected of involvement in the assassination. Some of the suspects are family members, and all are from Södertälje. The Swedish Security Service (Säpo) is involved in the case but has refused to comment publicly.

Justice Minister: “Too Early” to Determine Security Threat

Sweden’s Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer said it is “too early” to determine whether Momika’s murder signals a larger security threat to Sweden. However, the National Police Commissioner has not ruled out that Säpo may take over the investigation.

National Police Chief Admits Sweden Failed to Protect Momika

National Police Chief Petra Lundh acknowledged that Sweden failed to protect Momika, stating that while security assessments are made on a case-by-case basis, “it is tragic that we as a society could not protect him.”

Momika Was Trying to Flee Sweden for the U.S.

Before his murder, Momika had been live-streaming on TikTok to raise funds for his escape to the U.S. He expressed deep frustration with Sweden’s treatment of him despite also stating his appreciation for the country.

Court Voids His Trial Since a Deceased Person Cannot Be Sentenced

The Stockholm District Court announced that Momika’s case is now void, as Swedish law does not allow legal proceedings against a deceased person.

Momika’s Last Message: “Maybe I’m the Only Real Refugee in Sweden”

Momika had been granted a one-year temporary residence permit in May 2024, as Swedish migration officials ruled that he faced torture if deported to Iraq.

In one of his final emails, he wrote:

“Maybe I’m the only real refugee in Sweden or Europe who needs support.”

“I am grateful for Sweden and I love Sweden and its people, despite all the legal persecution. I have been subjected to this in Sweden ever since I demonstrated and expressed my opinion. Even the Swedish courts treated me badly in several cases and were not fair to me, especially in the asylum case.”

More updates will follow as the investigation unfolds.

Swedish Prime Minister Refuses to Condemn Momika’s Assassination

At a press conference this morning, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson refused to condemn the assassination of Salwan Momika, avoiding direct questions and failing to even mention Momika’s name. When pressed by journalists, Kristersson dismissed the killing as a “very spectacular murder” and refused to comment further.

This comes after Sweden’s government previously condemned Quran burners on the world stage, officially labeling them as “right-wing extremists” and “book-burning idiots” in diplomatic messages to Turkey and Pakistan. Now, with one of those critics assassinated, Sweden remains silent.

Momika was denied police protection despite ongoing death threats, while Sweden’s legal system focused on prosecuting him for “hate speech” instead of protecting his life. This raises serious concerns about whether Sweden’s public vilification of Islam critics contributed to making Momika a target.

Sweden’s silence sends a clear message—Muslims can carry out assassinations while the state turns a blind eye. Meanwhile, other Islamic critics remain at serious risk.

Update: January 30

Salwan Najem, who previously burned Qurans alongside Salwan Momika, has blasted Sweden’s government and police, accusing them of losing control and failing to protect critics of Islam.

“This fucking government has lost control,” Najem told Swedish media, denouncing Sweden’s refusal to stop Islamic violence.

In the summer of 2023, Najem and Momika burned the Quran together on several occasions. In August of the same year, charges were brought against both of them, alleging that they had ‘desecrated the Quran.’

Najem learned of Momika’s execution minutes after it happened through viewers who had been watching the livestream. When he called Momika’s wife, she was at the hospital, crying, and confirmed that he was dead.

Overnight, Najem received at least 100 death threats, many in Swedish, warning that he was next. He predicts that ex-priest and Quran burner Jade Sandberg will be targeted after him.

Despite the clear threats, Swedish police rejected Najem’s request for protected housing. They told him he ‘does not need’ shelter, even though he fears for his life.

Najem was interrogated by Swedish police on Thursday night. He was skeptical when officers called from a protected number and initially refused to speak to them when they showed up at his home. He admitted that he would not have trusted them if they had been of a foreign background.

Swedish authorities have spent months condemning Quran burnings as “Islamophobic acts” while ignoring Islamic violence.

Najem, who had stopped burning Qurans, is now considering starting again in honor of Momika:

“I must support the blood that was sacrificed for Sweden. The one who died today. I must support him.”

This exposes Sweden’s total failure—protecting Islam while sacrificing its own citizens. The execution of Islam’s critics has begun.

  • Some of the suspects are family members.
  • Most have no prior criminal records, though some have minor offenses.

UPDATE: January 30

Salwan Momika issued the following written statement to Swedish media group Samnytt regarding the incitement against an ethnic group charges filed against him.

“I did not know that Sweden would submit to Islam and Muslims, defending the Quran—a book written by bandits and criminals. This is a dangerous sign that freedom of expression and thought in Sweden is now truly at risk.

I see this as the first step toward Islamic Sharia law ruling Sweden, paving the way for blasphemy laws to punish anyone who dares to think, question, or criticize religion. In all developed countries, thinkers and intellectuals are rewarded—except in Sweden, where they are oppressed and subjected to a legal war to silence them.

Finally, I am not afraid. No matter how hard they try, I will not remain silent. I will continue to expose Islam and the ongoing project to Islamize Sweden and the West. I have sacrificed my safety—and even my life—for the sake of Sweden and the West. Your accusations will not scare me. I am prepared for whatever scenarios are being planned against me behind the scenes. This is a clear political decision.”

UPDATE: Swedish Court Postpones Quran Burning Verdict Following Momika’s Assassination

The Stockholm District Court has announced that the verdict in Salwan Momika’s hate speech case has been postponed following his assassination.

Momika and his associate, Salwan Najem, were scheduled to receive their verdict today on four charges of “incitement against an ethnic group” for their Quran burnings. However, with Momika now dead, the court stated that it must adjust the ruling accordingly. The new decision is set to be announced on Monday, February 3, at 11:00 a.m.

This latest development highlights the absolute farce of Sweden’s so-called “justice” system. Swedish authorities spent months persecuting Momika, preparing to criminalize him for offending Islam while allowing known terrorists and extremists to roam freely.

Now, just hours before his scheduled conviction, he was executed—on Swedish soil, in a Sharia-style hit.

Shockingly, Momika’s legal troubles mirrored those of other Islam critics, including Rasmus Paludan, who was sentenced for “slandering Islam.” Sweden’s increasing willingness to punish critics of Islam while allowing actual jihadist violence to spread unchecked is now more evident than ever.

Stay tuned for further updates as the investigation into Momika’s assassination continues.

———————————————-

Södertälje, Sweden – Iraqi-born Islam critic Salwan Momika was shot and killed on Wednesday night in Södertälje while live-streaming on social media. The assassination took place in an apartment building in the Hovsjö district, sending shockwaves through Sweden and beyond.

Authorities received reports of gunfire at approximately 11 p.m., marking yet another violent incident in Stockholm County. However, this was not gang-related. Instead, the target was Momika, known internationally for his Quran burnings in Sweden.

Murder Caught on Camera

During the attack, Momika was broadcasting live on the TikTok platform. Viewers witnessed the horrifying moment and immediately screen-recorded footage, which has since circulated widely on social media. The video also captures the moments following the shooting as police arrived at the crime scene.

A Marked Man

Momika gained notoriety after burning Qurans as part of his protest against Islam. His actions played a significant role during Sweden’s NATO negotiations, provoking outrage from Turkey and across the Muslim world. The backlash escalated into a diplomatic crisis, with Sweden facing condemnation from multiple Islamic countries.

His name was also added to the death lists of terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, both of which called for his execution.

Sweden’s Betrayal?

Momika arrived in Sweden in 2018 and was granted a three-year residence permit in 2021. However, following his high-profile Quran burnings, Swedish authorities revoked his temporary status. He appealed the decision and was later granted protection on the grounds that deporting him to Iraq would likely result in torture or death.

Despite this, he remained under legal pressure. In August of last year, Momika and his associate, fellow Islam critic Salwan Najem, were charged with four counts of “incitement against an ethnic group.” The verdict was scheduled to be announced today.

Arrests and Investigation

Swedish police have arrested five individuals suspected of involvement in the assassination, but details on the suspects and their potential motives remain unclear.

Momika’s execution raises serious concerns about free speech, security, and Sweden’s ability to protect those who challenge Islam. His killing will undoubtedly ignite further debate over whether Sweden is failing those who dare to speak out.
