Separation of families to enforce immigration laws is a non-issue. It is well-settled family law that children live with their parents unless there is abuse. Citizenship is not a factor.
In 1999, the mother of Elian Gonzalez left Cuba and tried to take him to the United States. When his mother died, his father in Cuba demanded custody, President Clinton quickly ordered federal agents to remove Elian Gonzalez from the home of relatives in Florida and return him to Cuba. This should not have been necessary. It should have been ordered by the regular judge of the local family court in a routine custody case.
Although American born children may be U.S. citizens, they should be deported with their illegal parents and live with them until they are emancipated adults. Only then would they have right to return to the United States.
