Democrat Mikie Sherrill Co-Sponsored “Reparations” Bill in Congress. Would She Do It As NJ Governor?

Mikie Sherrill is a Member of Congress and the Democratic candidate for Governor of New Jersey. She is running against Republican Jack Ciattarelli.

Two years ago, Mikie Sherrill was one of 130 Democrats in Congress who co-sponsored “H.R. 40”, the “Reparations Act”. It called for spending $20 million on a commission to “Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans”.*

The “Reparations Act” of 2023 that Sherrill co-sponsored, like all “reparation” schemes, was a complete fraud. First, it had nothing to do with “Reparations”. “Reparations” are payments made by wrongdoers to compensate victims of their wrongdoing. The bill that Sherrill co-sponsored was designed to force white, Asian, and Hispanic American taxpayers who never owned slaves to pay massive amounts of money to black Americans who never were slaves. It also ignores the fact that 2 million white Americans fought, and 310,000 died in the four-year Civil War to end slavery.

The bill was also dishonest in falsely blaming slavery for the current high levels of black crime, unemployment, poverty, illiteracy, and poor health today.  Those problems are not caused by slavery in the 1860s, discrimination in the 1930s and 1940s, or discrimination in the South in the 1960s. America is filled with immigrants who suffered far worse oppression and discrimination, including slavery, yet achieved the American Dream within one generation.

The truth is that every hardship facing so many black Americans today were caused not by slavery in the 1860s, but by socialism embraced by Democrats in America since the 1960s. All of the problems and hardships of black Americans described in the “Reparations Act” co-sponsored by Mike Sherrill were rapidly disappearing in America before 1965. They began to appear after 1965. That was when Democrat Lyndon Johnson won the White House and Democrat Ted Kennedy dominated Congress.  That was when Communists and socialists began to take control of the Civil Rights movement and influence our media, universities, teachers’ unions, and Hollywood pop culture. in the 1960sbill, sponsored and co-sponsored by 130 Democrats.

Ironically, there was a time for real reparations in America. In January of 1865, Republican President Abraham and General William T. Sherman developed a plan to confiscate land from slaveowners and to distribute it to their freed slaves. Sherman also proposed giving surplus army mules to each family of freed slaves. The program worked well for nearly a year.

However, after President Lincoln was murdered (by a Democrat celebrity), Vice-President Andrew Johnson became President. Johnson was Democrat and a racist. Lincoln made him his running mate for the 1864 election because Lincoln thought Johnson would give him Democratic votes he thought were needed to win a close election. Andrew Johnson killed the reparations program of Lincoln and Sherman. As commander-in-chief, Johnson ordered the army to return to absentee white former slaveowners all land it had taken during the war, and to evict all their freed black slaves who were working it.

In 1878, the Democratic Party regained political control of the South and won majorities in both houses of Congress. That ended all possibility of genuine reparations where former slaveowners could compensate their former slaves. After that, millions for former slaves moved to Republican states in the north where they began new lives. Many came to Atlantic City, New Jersey where they built and owned many successful businesses. Many others succeeded as teachers and in the professions.

Since 1965, white, Asian, and Hispanic Americans have paid billions of dollars to black Americans through countless “welfare” programs. These programs did far more long-term harm to black families than slavery. A “reparations” program would be just another welfare program. People who work and produced would be punished with higher taxes. People who don’t work or produce would be “entitled” to payments because of the color of their skin.

Politically connected people would be paid $20 million to make a study to justify this.

Mikie Sherrill voted for these “Reparations” as a Member of Congress. She is now the Democratic candidate for Governor of New Jersey. Shouldn’t this be a major campaign issue?
