Radical leftists of the “New Jersey Institute for Social Justice” began their campaign for 16-year-old voting last year. This is typical of what “community organizers” in hundreds of similar “social justice” groups have been doing since the 1990’s. Many are supported and funded by George Soros and Barack Obama. They often succeed because few people pay attention to what they are doing until it’s too late.

Last January, it worked with another group called “Vote16NJ”. Vote16NJ is led by one student at Harvard and another at Yale. Students in both schools have led pro-Hamas and anti-Israel riots during the past year.
Last January, both groups succeeded in “persuading” the Newark City Council to adopt an ordinance allowing 16- and 17-year-olds to vote in Newark school elections.
Later these two radical leftist groups were joined by “mainstream” leaders and organizations of the Democratic Party like Governor Murphy and the NAACP.
Last January, the Atlantic City branch of the NAACP began lobbying the City Council of Atlantic City to also allow 16- and 17=year-olds to vote in school elections.
Several bills are now pending in the NJ Legislature to do that. Last January, Newark approved a new ordinance that would let seven thousand 16 and 17 year olds vote in next year’s school elections. A similar ordinance was introduced by City Council in Atlantic City last Wednesday.
Having 16-and 17-year-olds vote would benefit “woke” Democrats in many ways. It would also hurt Republicans. Have any prominent Republicans said or done anything to stop this?
Here are some examples of how teen voting promotes the “woke” leftist Democrat agenda:
1. Almost all of these new voters are students in public schools and who are indoctrinated every day by members of the NJEA Teacher’s Union-a radical leftist organization. In our public schools today, any student who openly opposes illegal immigration, climate change, transgenders in women’s sports or any woke agenda item is reprimanded or disciplined.
2. In school elections, 16- and 17-year-olds would be instructed by teachers who would benefit from bigger school budgets, bigger debt, high taxes and school board members who would give them bigger salaries and benefits.
3. Most 16- and 17-year-olds are “low-information” and “low-motivation” voters. Few take an interest in politics or government. However, they would sign forms and vote if approached by “vote harvesters”. For the past 30 years, Democrats systematically adopted early voting, mail voting, and messenger voting to make it easy for their “community organizers” to “harvest” votes from “low-information” and “low-motivation” voters who rarely voted before.
4. There are good reasons why every state has laws that do not allow 16- and 17-year-olds to use and possess alcohol, drugs and cigarettes. Their brains are not yet mature, their hormone changes make them more likely to engage in reckless and irresponsible behavior. Also, they do not have enough life experience to fully understand the consequences of their actions and decisions. We do not allow 16- and 17-year-olds to sit on juries for the same reason.
5. Voting is not a “good civil habit”. It is the power to take money and property from others and to control their behavior. Because that power can be so easily misused, only people with life-experience as well as education should exercise it.
6. The recent tragedies of teenagers who were allowed and encouraged to permanently mutilate their bodies to attempt to change their gender is a classic example of why teenagers should not have the power to determine the rights of others.
7. At one time, only citizens over the age of 21 who paid taxes or served in the military were allowed to vote. Now, anybody over the age of 18 is allowed to vote. Has government in America gotten better or worse since we did that?
8. Teenage voting would further weaken families. It would make it even harder for parents to communicate with and discipline teenage children. Do 16- and 17-year-olds have a “right” to order anything they want off the menu if their parents take them to a restaurant? How will family dynamics be affected when teachers tell students to vote for candidates, budgets, and bond issues their parents oppose.
9. Socialism and Communism win the support of immature people who support the ideals of equality and social justice, but who don’t have the life experience to recognize the practical consequences of government using its power to take from some and give to others. That is why Communists and socialists depend on most of their votes and support from people who lack this life experience.
