Democrats and their media claim that Trump abuses his executive power when he stops spending money for fraud, corruption, or policies he opposes. They claim that because Congress and the previous President enacted laws to spend that money, it must be spent the way the previous President was spending it. They are wrong.
Congress and the previous President also made a law to limit how much the President can spend. Last January, they created a “debt ceiling” of $36.1 trillion. It is against the law for the President to spend money that would leave the United States government owing more than $36.1 trillion. If the President spends all of the money Congress authorized him to spend, he would add roughly $1 trillion to the debt every 100 days. Without massive spending cuts, President Trump will exceed the debt limit very quickly, if he did not do so already. Source: U.S. Debt Interest Payments Reach $1 Trillion
When Congress creates laws that contradict each other, the President must use his judgment to decide which laws have priority. That is a textbook “executive decision”. Article II of our Constitution states, “The Executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America”.
