While some folks go to meetings, and others send emails to each other, Barbara Brown of Atlantic County is running for County Freeholder.

One of our members, Barbara Brown, owner of the British Connection store in Absecon (soon moving to Linwood), told friends yesterday she is circulating petitions to run for county-wide freeholder in Atlantic County.??? She? said she will run ?off the party line? in the Primary Election on June 3.

Barbara Brown said she hopes two other liberty candidates will join her and form a bracketed ticket with a single slogan to run for a second county-wide seat, and for the District 3 seat that includes most of Egg Harbor Township and Hamilton Township (Mays Landing).

Last year, the Republican Party in Atlantic County removed Joe McDevitt, its only conservative, and replaced him with Will Pauls, a former Democrat and well-paid business agent of Steve Sweeney?s Ironworker?s Union.?? Since then, Republican and Democrat freeholders in Atlantic County together have pushed for more borrowing, more spending, higher taxes, wind-turbines in the ocean with higher electric bills, and more ?pay to play? deals.

Meanwhile, Atlantic County Republicans from Congressman Frank LoBiondo to the county freeholders have not lifted a finger to stop a proposed new law to limit the size of gun magazines to less than 10 rounds?a proposal that will do nothing to make anyone safer, but which will cause enormous expense and less safety for lawful gun owners.

Last year, gun-owners learned the hard way that it is very difficult to recruit and prepare good candidates to defeat established state senators and assembly members.?? Although it is very important to make our views known at the public hearings in Trenton, it is also important for people to run as candidates for the legislature to practice by running for county or local office this year.?? Again, the deadline for filing petitions is March 31.

Liberty and Prosperity is a tax-exempt education organization.?? We cannot and do not endorse or support any candidates.?? But we teach that we cannot enjoy liberty unless government ?secures? our unalienable rights ?exercising its just powers with the consent of the governed?.?? And that cannot happen unless we elect people who agree with that.

Barbara Brown and any candidate for a county office needs her nominating petition signed by at least one hundred voters who have registered to vote in her party?s primary, or have not yet voted in any primary or declared? to be a member of some other party.? All nominating petitions for county office must be filed with the County Clerk by Monday, March 31.

Barbara Brown said she wants to talk about her plans at tomorrow?s Liberty and Prosperity breakfast before she makes any public announcement.

Liberty and Prosperty holds breakfast discussions at the Shore Diner every Saturday morning from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.?? The Shore Diner is at? Tilton and Fire Roads in Egg Harbor Township by Parkway Exit 36.
