Some postcards say “Republicans Kill Children”. Others say “Republicans Kill Americans”. The one I got last week says “We Will Build Windmills On Your Grave!” These hate postcards have been mailed to me ever since I won the Primary Election to be the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in South Jersey more than five years ago. (I was defeated by our current Congressman Jeff Van Drew who was then a Democrat. However, someone has continued to send me those postcards on a regular basis ever since.)
I am used to this. I have been active in politics for most of my life. I have also been a lawyer who has represented many unpopular clients, and taken many unpopular cases.
However, most Americans are NOT used to this. There is no reason why they should be. Ordinary citizens should be free to be candidates for public office, hold public office, and speak openly on public issues without being bullied, insulted, or threatened like this. These hate cards are a threat to democracy. Their only purpose is to discourage Americans from being active in politics and freely expressing their views.
However, very few daily newspapers, national TV, radio, and online news sources rarely report this type of harassment of Republicans, Christians, or conservatives. Instead, they, along with law enforcement agencies and officials like the FBI, Department of Justice, and New Jersey Attorney General falsely blame only “the extreme right” and “white supremacy” groups.
