Atlantic City Electric today announced it would raise its rates by 17% in June. This is on top of a 20% rate increase last year. Both were caused by eight years of war against nuclear power and natural gas by Governor Murphy and climate alarmists. They shut down the Oyster Creek nuclear plant and refused to expand the nuclear plant in Salem. They stopped South Jersey Gas from building an 18-mile pipeline from Millville to the Beesley’s Point power plant. Then they demolished that vital power plant and its cooling tower. When Atlantic City Electric could not produce enough electricity, they forced it to buy expensive “green” energy from other companies.

However, they are spending our tax dollars to lie and falsely blame these endless rate hikes on not having enough wind turbines and solar panels!

It falsely claims that New Jersey has high electric bills because we are not getting enough electricity from wind and solar. It claims that we can cut our electric bills, by persuading our politicians to spend even more money on wind turbines and solar panels.
These are absolute lies. We have repeatedly explained why wind and solar electricity is inefficient, wasteful and expenses.

California, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island have the highest electric rates in America. That is because consumers there are forced to pay for the most wind and solar electricity. Residents there pay roughly 29 cents per kilowatt hour.
Utah, North Dakota, Idaho and Louisiana have the lowest electric rates. Residents there pay only 12 cents per kilowatt hour. That is because they get very little of their electricity from wind and solar.

We get 42% of our electricity from the two nuclear generators in Salem. We get another 50% from oil and natural gas. If we got all of our electricity from gas, oil, and nuclear, we would also have the cheapest electric rates in America. We pay more because we are forced to pay high rates to the owners of wind turbines and solar panels who give us 8% of our electricity. We are also forced to pay high rates for “green” electricity produced out of state.
That is because New Jersey does not produce enough electricity. Governor Murphy and climate alarmists forced us to shut down the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant in Lacey Township. They also forced the Beesley’s Point Plant near Garden State Parkway Mile 28 by not allowing South Jersey Gas to build a pipeline from there to Millville under Route 49.
There are three sure ways to cut electric rates and permanently stop ocean wind turbines. First, we need to re-fit and re-open the Oyster Creek nuclear plant. Second, we need to add another nuclear generator to the Salem plant. Third, we need to rebuild the Beesley’s Point power plant and build the pipeline from Millville to supply it with natural gas.
*The Utility Action Alliance claims to be a consumer group interested in lowering utility bills. However, if you visit its website, it is obvious that it is run by climate alarmists. Their main goal is to scare people out of wanting energy from natural gas. They even oppose gas stoves and ovens! They also deceptively use the word “methane gas” instead of “natural gas”. They know from numerous public opinion polls that although the two words describe the same product, many consumers have negative views of “methane gas” but positive views of “natural gas”.

Meanwhile, our own Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) is also spreading climate lies. Its website falsely claims that recycling plastic “reduces waste” and “helps the environment”.
It does neither. Most plastic is shipped to other places where it is dumped. Much of it is shipped to undeveloped countries. Much of it ends up polluting rivers, lakes and oceans.
Recycling also demands duplicate trash pick-ups and handling. The ACUA even insists that you wash your plastic garbage to remove “food and liquid residue”. This all wastes water and fossil fuel!
On Saturday, February 8, 2025 we unanimously agreed to support 11 Goals In 2025. They include these two:
#3. End “Green” Energy Subsidies. No Government Funding or Rate Hikes to pay for Unsustainable and Unreliable Solar and Wind Electricity: Expand nuclear power. Rebuild and replace the productive nuclear, oil, and gas power plants destroyed by demands of climate alarmists during the past five years.
#4. End mandatory and government funded recycling. End restrictions on private, voluntary recycling.
