I Was Right To Call Kim Guadagno A Diversity Dud Three Years Ago!

Former New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, who was elected twice on a ticket with Gov. Chris Christie, has left the Republican Party and is now an unaffiliated voter, the New Jersey Globe has confirmed.  Click here for full story posted on NJ Globe.

Three years ago, while seeking the Republican nomination for House of Representatives, I was asked during a debate what I would do to bring more “diversity” to the Republican ticket.  I responded by saying this:

“The whole idea of diversity is a bunch of crap and un-American.  . . It’s an excuse by Democrats, communists, and socialists, basically, to say that we’re not all created equal; that some people, if somebody is lesser qualified, they will get a job anyway, or they’ll get into college anyway, because of the tribe that they’re with, what group, what box they fit into. . .

“I think Republicans make a big mistake when we nominate lesser-qualified candidates because they fit into that box.  I believe that’s why Republicans nominated Kim Guadagno instead of Jack Ciattarelli last time.  Oh, she’s a woman; she’ll get more votes, because we’re showing how diverse we are. Look how that turned out.”

“I believe in America that each individual should be judged on nothing but his or her talent, character and hard work. I’m rejecting the whole premise of diversity as a virtue.”

Although only a few dozen people attended that debate sponsored by J R Carmen of the New Jersey Constitutional Republicans, it was videotaped by “American Bridge to the 21st Century”. This is a well-funded George Soros radical left group that videotapes hundreds of  Republican candidates for hours,  hoping to capture one careless “makaka” or “gotcha” remark.   One week after I unexpectedly won the June 5 Republican Primary election, American Bridge released the video to the Philadelphia Inquirer.  The story was on the front page of that paper and the Daily News the following day.  It also became viral online  national news.  Click here for link to the Philadelphia Inquirer story.

I received overwhelming support and more than $200,000 in donations from Republicans around the country.  However, Kim Guadagno and NJ GOP leaders Doug Steinhardt, Tom Kean, and Jon Bramnick held a joint news conference to publicly attack me.  They also privately sabotaged my campaign by telling Republican leaders to avoid all contact and cooperation with me.  For many reasons, Republicans running for Congress in 2018 did poorly.  I came closer to winning than most New Jersey Republicans.   Ironically, my Democratic opponent, Jeff Van Drew later switched parties.  He became a Republican, fully supported President Trump, and was re-elected as a Republican last November.
