Mainland High School/Stockton “Educator” Objects To Free Speech in Ocean City

Last month, I posted a letter with the Ocean City Sentinel defending the right of Rev. Greg Quinlan, an Ex-Gay/Gay Conversion Advoctate, to make a speech in a public park in Ocean City, last September.  “Ex Gay”/”Gay Conversion” Activist Also Had A Right To Speak. – Liberty and Prosperity

Although I did not agree with what he said, I defended his right to express his views.  I wrote that:

“Ocean City public schools apparently failed to teach their students that the same American ideas of liberty and unalienable rights that protect the right to choose or promote LGBTQ lifestyles also gave “ex gay” and “gay conversion therapy” activist Greg Quinlan the right to express his opinions in a public park in Ocean City last September 9”.

I also wrote,

“It has been four months since Greg Quinlan spoke at that September 9 rally at City Hall.  I am sure that if anyone was harmed, threatened, or made “unsafe” by his words, we would have heard about it by now.  Although LGBTQs are routinely beaten and killed in many non-Christian countries, hardly anybody in America today cares what same sex couples do in their own homes.”

Last week. the Ocean City Sentinel published a letter from Karen Williams objecting to my letter.  Williams is a member of the “Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department at Stockton University, where she “engages in feminist practice and theory”.  She is also an “English and gender studies teacher” at Mainland Regional High School in Linwood. Williams was also a featured speaker at  the “We Belong Cape May County” event called “Listen, Learn and Love” about LGBTQ last January 7 at the Ocean City Free Public Library.  Click here for link to Ocean City Sentinel article on that event.

Williams claimed that Quinlan’s speech last September made her “unsafe” because “his words terrified me and hurt be deeply”.

Williams also claimed “statistics show that anti-LGBTQ violence has been on the rise in the United States”.  However, she did not give any specific examples.  It is unclear what “violence” she was referring to.  Does making a speech that disagrees with or opposes the LGBTQ political agenda constitute “anti-LGBTQ violence”?  She certainly did not claim that any specific act or threat of violence took place because of Mr. Quinlan’s speech in Ocean City last September.
