Above “Political Engagement” announcement is still posted on Stockton’s official website!

Last week, former Stockton College president Harvey Kesselman published a remarkable opinion piece in the Press of Atlantic City. He wrote that New Jersey colleges needed to be less political and less expensive. Kesselman’s piece was remarkable. Harvey Kesselman spent most of his eight years as Stockton’s President making the college more political and more expensive!

Kesselman continued and expanded all of the failed policies of his predecessor, former Stockton President Herman Saatkamp. They were a toxic brew of “woke” indoctrination of students, pay-to-play NJ politics, and massive government debt. Herman Saatkamp was Stockton’s President from 2003 to 2015. Kesselman took over from 2015 to 2023. Kesselman continues to play an active role in running the college.

During these years, Stockton incurred a massive debt of $572 million. Student enrollment steadily declined since 2019.

Liberty and Prosperity tried to be an active part of the Stockton University community since we were founded in 2003.  However, we were systematically excluded. In 2012, we were banned from all campus activities when we opposed a $750 million state ballot question that helped pay for Stockton’s reckless expansion. 1. An analogy.
It’s March for a third-grade class. The kids know the routine. The day’s first assignment is on the board, the pads and sharpened pencils on each desk. The class begins, following the same procedures of the past 6 months, when suddenly the teacher blurts out. “Students, I just remembered I was supposed to take my car in for repair! You know the drill – the work is on the board. I’ll be back in about an hour and we’ll continue the day. Be good!” And she leaves.
What do you think the class will look like when she returns?
    Another analogy.
It’s election day. You go to the polls and vote. (Thank you!) Then you go home and await the next election in a year or two, when you’ll vote again.
But when you return at that time, what do you think YOUR GOVERNMENT will look like?
Both classrooms and government (all levels) need ongoing supervision. As citizens, part of our obligation in this experiment in self-governance is ENGAGEMENT. Ignoring public policy debate will not make it go away. But your engagement and presence – anywhere – will help keep it in check.
The problem with Stockton, and so many other public institutions, is that we turned away, tried to live our lives, and hoped someone else would keep things in check. It doesn’t work that way.
Leave a vacuum, and those who seek to profit will fill it quickly.
Thus: Stockton … and most all of our “public” institutions, like our hospital conglomerates.
READ and LISTEN TO Liberty & Prosperity. Seth and others spend hundreds of hours per month doing research. Now it’s your turn to ENGAGE.
Thanks for all you do, Seth and L&P…
